To Bordterr, about your answer, "Q: 7 yo maltese with cushings on miotane" on 3/25/2008, 2:39 pm: I appreciated all the tidbits and info that you passed onto me in your response to my e-mail. I have been doing somethings for awhile, but warm water just prior to feeding him and using a little salt from Mrs Dash was new to me, and will give it a try. I took Cirrus to his vet, yesterday, not only because of his change in his eating habit, but also he vomited bright red blood once, and had also started throwing up phlem after eating, sometimes with food and sometiimes foamy. He has been loosing wt, of coarse I thought that it was because feeding him better kibble (ws on beneful for a long time, then began the switch to Canidae recently...My eyes n thoughts would watch him eat, moving the kibble away or out of the dish, eating only the soft food, I thought there was something to it, but didn't know just what.. When I took him to the vet, with the vomiting of bright blood, and other indications showing plus the wt loss, his medication Miotane very easily could be causing a gastric ulcer.....the treat that I had given Cirrus prior to the blood showing itself, could have knocked a small scab off and it bled some. I am giving him as much soft food right now, using warm water, or I purchased a can of dog food from groomers. Meds that I can crush, I put in with his food, I am planning on feeding him small meals(6) during the day. I know he is hungry, he licks the dish clean. I know that the miotane is probably the culprit because he was very good about getting his teeth and tongue going, before the pill was hardly on his tongue, where as he would bite the capsule, probably putting a hole or two in the capsule, which then the medicine in pill, sprinkled out. I am hoping to give most of his meds by mixing with his food, leaving the miotane the only one that I have to put directly into his mouth...it is good to watch him clean his dish with enjoyment.....I think the dry food was causing him some discomfort in his belly, thus he left the dry kibble on the floor....thank-you again, mamm chris

Thanks for your reply. We called around and found a Vet that would go in and try to find the tissue; since she’s in heat it would be easier to find. Well, to everyone’s dismay, she was never spayed! No ligation, no nothing, a completely intact uterus and ovaries. I’ll be calling the original Vet and asking for a refund and the extra cost we had to pay to have it done. Any other thoughts?

I spent an hour this evening at the vet's office discussing treatment options and unfortunately, there are few. We elected to go forward with the phenobarbital as we have had 2 more seizures in the 2 days since I posted the original question. We cannot go on like this and I am prepared to let her go if this does not work. She has blessed my life in a million ways and I owe that to her when the time comes. We suspect that the medication may not work at all but have to try. Thank you again and God bless you and those you love.

To Swoozie, about your answer, "A: arthritis and cancer in my big dog" on 2/1/2008, 3:01 pm: SWOOZIE, THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME AN ANSWER. WE HAVE 3 BIG DOGS NOW. THEY STAY IN OUR HOME WITH US. I TELL PEOPLE WE LIVE IN A BIG DOG HOUSE AND THEY JUST TOLERATE US. WE LOVE THEM AS IF THEY WERE OUR KIDS. (OUR KIDS ARE GROWN UP) JAKE JUST LIKES TO BARK . IT'S HIS FAVORITE PAST TIME. I DON'T WORRY MUCH ABOUT IT BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE AROUND US HAS BARKING DOGS. ALL THREE OF OUR BOYS PLUS NEIGHBOR DOGS HOWL AT THE FIRE WHISTLES AND SIRENES. WE LIVE ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN ACROSS FROM THE FIRE HOUSE. HE SLEEPS MOST OF THE TIME BUT, WHEN HE DECIDES TO BARK HE DOES IT UNTIL HE'S DONE. THE ONLY TIME THEY STAY OUTSIDE IS WHEN THEY CHOOSE TO,AND WHEN IT'S WARM ENOUGH FOR THEM TO BE OUT AFTER THEY TELL THE GRANDBABIES HI (THE BABIES CAN'T PLAY BECAUSE THE BOYS WANT TO BE CLOSE TO THEM AND WON'T STAY OUT OF THEIR FACES). ALSO, IF WE HAVE TO GO SOMEPLACE WE LET THEM OUT. THERE'S NO WAY THEY WOULD BE HAPPY STAYING IN THE HOUSE WHILE WE'RE GONE. BUT, THEY HAVE DOG HOUSES TO STAY IN WITH PLENTY OF STRAW IN THEM. THEY EVEN HAVE GOBS OF STRAW UNDER THE PORCH IF THEY DON'T WANT TO LAY IN A DOG HOUSE. WE TAKE CARE OF THE NEIGHBORS DOG WITH THE SAME LOVE AND CARE. HE DOES STAY OUTSIDE ALL OF THE TIME. BUT, WE MAKE SURE HE HAS FRESH WATER ALL OF THE TIME. IN HOT WEATHER, COLD WATER. IN COLD WEATHER WATER, NOT A BIG BOWLFUL OF ICE. THEY'RE ALL SPOILED ROTTEN. WE'RE POOR PEOPLE DOING THE BEST WE KNOW HOW TO DO. OUR BOYS WERE THROWN OUT AT OUR CHURCH ALMOST 7 YEARS AGO. WE FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM. THEY'RE PARVO SURVIVERS, POKEY ACTUALLY DIED AND THE GOOD LORD GAVE HIM BACK TO US. JOHN HAS STOMACH PROBLEMS AND WE DOCTOR HIM FOR THAT ALONG WITH ARTHRITIS. JAKE HAS HAD BLADDER SURGERY AND ALSO HAS ARTHRITIS. WITH THE LORDS HELP WE HAVE DONE PRETTY GOOD BY THEM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE COULD DO TO MAKE THEM ANY HAPPIER. OUR DAUGHTER-IN-LAW SAID IF SHE COULD COME BACK AFTER DEATH SHE'D WANT TO BE OUR DOG. I LIKE YOUR STRAIGHT FORWARDNESS. I WANT STRAIGHT ANSWERS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT OUR BOYS SO YOU WOULDN'T THINK WE JUST WENT OUT AND GOT A DOG THAT WE COUDN'T TAKE CARE OF. I DON'T APPROVE OF THAT. BUT WE FEEL THAT GOD GAVE THEM TO US BECAUSE WE TRIED TO FIND HOMES FOR THEM. EVEN PRAYED GOD WOULD SEND SOMEONE TO WANT THEM. WE PRAYED FOR GOD TO GIVE THEM GOOD HOMES AND I DON'T MEAN TO TOOT MY OWN HORN BUT, WITH THE LORDS HELP I DON'T THINK THEY COULD HAVE GOTTEN A BETTER HOME.

Thank you for your advice on my cat. She is doing better today. I go back to the vet this afternoon and at least feel a little more prepared to know what to ask. I will also look to finding a way to rule out reactions to the vaccines in the future for her. Thank you for your quick and helpful response. Pippin and I both appreciate the help!

Thanks for your answer, "A: Yellow ferret" I had been bathing binx on a weekly basis. I had no idea that ferrets should only be bathed a couple times a year. I will also change his food, i was under the impression that there wasn't much of a difference in ferret foods. hopefully this will help with the yellowing and keep binx happy and healthy

To PatchBell, about your answer, "A: Please help ASAP CAT THROWING UP BLOOD" on 11/16/2007, 10:14 pm:hello and thank you for your response. Your answer would be the first and formost thing to do unfortunatly, the kitten does not belong to me and the owner does not share my heart felt love for animals that i do. I sorry to say he left that morning to work without so much as refilling the water for the kitten from the jug i had left. The mother and her two babys were abandoned by his exroomate. The 2 kittens are inside cats but the mom is both I dont have access to there unit so Im not able to monitor them, I cried myself to sleep. I finally got him to agree to leave a window open so i could let the mother into see her babies when he doesnt come home all night, other wise I feed her and make her a warm bed on the porch. All I have been able to do is call out to the kittens at the window hoping to see them but only the mother has appeared. I wish I could do more but my hands are tied I just pray he will do the right thing before it is too late. so Thank you again for your response, God Bless you and yours. Bobbi Sue

I certainly don't want to kill this snake she is so beautiful, so thanks again for the advise and i wont feed her anymore goldfish. What about the worms though, she seems to enjoy those.

Thanks--
Was hoping there would be medication or something in the place of surgery. It bothers me that I have followed their instructions ; getting clear urine tests; and yet she keeps getting a stone. I am strongly thinking of dropping Hills ud wet food and going strictly with organic veggies.
thanks again charles

I don't remember the person's name who sent advice, but I want to thank them very much! I'm sure Beta's tank was not 80 degrees. I changed the water to make it warmer, but it cooled off again. I continued to give her one pellet or one bloodworm each day. Yesterday, Nov. 2, she decided to eat! She ate one pellet and spit it out, but ate a bloodworm. That's all she wants! Im going to get her different food. Thanks for your help!

Our pygmy goats, 7 month old Lu Lu (should have been called Delihla) and 3 month old Sampson - Sammy for short - says thank you for the help on the above question. It has been a great help to me as I am a newbie owner of goats and would recommend these delightful creatures as they are so much fun and have a great intelligence (pygmy style of course). Once again many thanks from all of us.
