Q: Eating socks

My children's python just ate a knee-length sock! I use the sock like a glove because she sometimes bites when I reach into her cage. She has never tried to swallow it before, although she sometimes bites it for a while, so I left it with her when I had to go to a different room - and it was gone when i came back! I feel like a very bad mum, and i would welcome any suggestions. Will she be able to excrete it again, or is there something I can do to help her get it through? I don't want to feed her anything else in case she's blocked up, but I wonder if this would help get her digestion going.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

A: Eating socks

You need to get her to a vet, NOW! This could be a medical emergency. She may need surgery to remove the blockage. It's not likely it will pass through on its own. If you need to find a good reptile vet, try www.arav.org or www.herpvetconnection.com.
