Q: the rabbit "cold"

hi,

i dont know if my rabbit has a cold, i hope not, but today i was hosing in the garden, and i accidentally sprayed water in the way where his cage was, and got him wet. it was cold water, so i dont know if he can get pneumonia, or some kind of cold, i dont know what can happen to him, but im worried. i would like to know what i can do to prevent my rabbit from getting sick any home remedies, or anything i can do at all? i did towel him dry as soon as i noticed that i had sprayed water his way. and didnt stop toweling him till he was completely dry. but anything else i can do please tell me. thanks.

Yes, rabbits can fall ill from being wet and chilly. The best thing for you to have done was to towel him dry and keep him out of any drafts until he was 100%% dry.

Keep an eye on him, and if you notice any problems, contact a rabbit savvy vet (see www.rabbit.org to locate a good rabbit vet in your area).

I agree with Sweet Melody, however you should also check inside the hutch & bedding area to make sure that they are also dry. Also check the food dish to see if it has any water in it. If not, change the bedding & if possible keep rabbit out of hutch until it is dry. Then put the rabbit back in, dampness will be gone & extreme dampness causes humidity which can create bacteria that could harm the rabbit. Have the wet area sun-dry or if you're in a hurry use paper towels to thoroughly dry it out. Otherwise all that towel drying will be for nothing. :-) Sounds like you are a caring pet owner.
